Shenzhen has established a modern financial system with banking, securities and insurance as the backbone, in coexistence with other types of financial institutions, featuring a fairly reasonable structure and perfect functionality.
China's first foreign-capital bank, the first joint-stock insurance company, the first securities company, the first foreign exchange adjustment center, the first Sino-foreign joint-venture financial company, and the first financial E-settlement center were all born in Shenzhen.
All domestic financial institutions have set up branches in Shenzhen, which has China's most developed and the most complete banking network. Over 50 foreign financial institutions have set up branches in Shenzhen. The distribution density of financial institutions of Shenzhen ranks top in China. In 2005, the balance of various deposits of domestic financial institutions in Shenzhen reached RMB 847.816 billion; the loan balance reached RMB 616.804 billion; the aggregated cash pay-out reached RMB 1,090.483 billion; the cash take-in reached RMB 979.569 billion.
Shenzhen has one of China's two securities exchanges. At the end of 2005, there were 544 listed companies and 586 listed stocks on the Shenzhen Securities Exchange, with 213.365 billion issued stocks in total, market value of listed companies reaching RMB 933.415 billion, and total dealing amount reaching RMB 1,242.457 billion.
